builders of a country - Independent Theater Hungarybuilders of a country
országépítők
While many see the majority of Gypsies as unemployed, Roma workers have long played a prominent role in building houses in Hungary. Initially in the field of adobe bricklaying, later in brick factories and then in the construction industry in general, the role of Roma has become increasingly important, sometimes clinging to their identity, sometimes abandoning it. What can a family achieve in three generations from the 1960s to the present day? And what is the cost of change?
„We are angry at our fathers
We are angry at our sons
We are angry at ourselves
At this merciless
slimy, greasy, pestilent folk
Among whom we must live.
Yet this anger has built this country
And is still building it.”

Reviews
'In the concluding part of the "Fathers and Sons" trilogy by Independent Theater Hungary, exclusion becomes universal, but not through the means of incessant complaints. It both entertains and provokes thought. Though filled with specific, local references, foreign audiences will also understand everything once there are international performances.'
SZOFA.EU'The company's stage language is expressive. It features stereotypical pronunciation, loudness, lively gestures, and includes swearing and vows. The portrayal's visual style is strongly realistic; it works with very expressive non-verbal communication, clear facial expressions, and gestures.'
